The Georgia Department of Driver Services ( GA DDS) regulates the Georgia DDS Certified 6-hr Driver Improvement Program also known as the Georgia DDS Certified 6-hr Defensive Driving Program.

This is a 6-hr Defensive Driving course designed to teach drivers about safe driving attitudes and behaviors. You may attend Barber's GA DDS Certified 6-hr Defensive Driving courses on Zoom or In-Person at our Columbus, GA location.

Sign up at least 20 minutes before the class starts. Limited seats are available, so we suggest you sign up a day or 2 in advance.

Zoom certificates issued are the same as In-Person certificates issued.

Zoom students will be emailed their certificates at completion.

We teach the same class on Zoom as In-Person. Most people attend on Zoom. Our physical location is in Columbus, GA . You are more than welcome to attend in-person at our Columbus location.

Consent

I, the undersigned student, agree to complete the above course, consisting of 1 class for 6 hours each, totaling 6 hours of instruction by the above-name driver improvement clinic. It is understood that this Clinic is certified by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) in accordance with Georgia Law Title §40-5-80 (DRIVER IMPROVEMENT ACT) and the rules and regulations adopted there under and that each instructor is certified by the DDS. The student’s successful completion of the above-named course requires each of the following: 1. Attendance at all classes sober and free from illicit drugs. 2. Attendance on time for all sessions. 3. Reasonable attentiveness and participation in all classes. 4. Attendance at all sessions unless medically excused. 5. All sessions must be completed within 60 days. 6. Successfully passing a written or oral examination with a grade of at least 70. This driver improvement clinic will not refund any tuition or part of tuition if the Clinic is ready, willing, and able to fulfill its part of this contract. I understand that if I fail to comply with the terms and conditions of this agreement, I am in breach of contract and the school will not be under any obligation to fulfill the terms of this contract, and may, at its option, terminate this agreement immediately. It is agreed that an owner, instructor, or employee of this Clinic shall not give the impression to a student that upon completion of their instruction this Clinic will guarantee the securing of a driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle. However, immediately upon the student’s successful completion of the course as described above, the Clinic agrees to provide certification of said completion to the student. This Clinic has and will maintain for the protection of the contractual rights of the student a performance bond in the principal sum of ten thousand ($10,000.00) dollars for the students to be written by a company authorized to do business in the state of Georgia. This agreement constitutes the contract between the above-named driver improvement clinic and the above-named student and no verbal statements will be recognized.

Points and Points Reduction

Point System

Points are added to your license upon conviction of certain violations. The Georgia Point System ranges from 2 to 6 points.

How many points will suspend your license?

A driver with 15 points in a 24 month period will have their license suspended. Licensed Georgia residents may request that the Georgia Department of Driver Services reduce the number of points assessed against their Georgia driver's license.
Under 18, 4 points in 1 year.
Under 21, 4 points in 1 traffic stop.

Points Reduction

How do I reduce points on my Georgia driver's license?
- Up to 7 points can be reduced once every 5 years. In accordance with rule O.C.G.A §40-5-86.
- To qualify for a Points Reduction, you must successfully complete a Georgia DDS Certified Driver Improvement (defensive driving) course. Once you complete the Georgia DDS Certified Driver Improvement (defensive driving) course:
  - Bring the original certificate of completion to a DDS Customer Service Center
  - or you can request a Defensive Driving Points reduction by Mail. Mail the original certificate of completion to the Georgia Department of Driver Services, P. O. Box 80447, Conyers, Georgia 30013.
- For a list of Georgia Certified Defensive Driving schools visit Certified Driver Improvement Schools

When are points not added?

You will not receive points for the following:
- Speeding convictions less than 15 miles-per-hour over the posted speed limit
- Convictions of driving "Too Fast for Conditions"
- If you are a Non-Georgia Resident
