Option 6 — City Driving — Urban Old & New Business Districts

This is a 2-hour driving session conducted in two different urban business districts. The first hour of training will be in an Urban Old Business District, which is a very different driving environment than the 2nd hour of training in an Urban New Business District. We find the older business districts in the blocks of uptown Columbus, downtown Atlanta, or in any city where the city’s business district began.
Similarly, if you are driving in any city in America, you will find the same challenges in their Old Business Districts. Therefore, if you learn the sensory systems search, scanning patterns, and hazard recognition in your city so that you will be able to translate those skills to all major cities in America.

Old Urban Business Districts have many different roadways—one-ways, two-ways, two-way divide roadways—which can be challenging for the beginning driver, older driver, and international driver. In addition, narrowed roads, increased vehicular, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic can be especially dangerous.

Likewise, all cities including Columbus have Urban New Business Districts, which is where we find all the major shopping and dining businesses. In Columbus, we are talking about Columbus Park Crossing, Walmart, Target, and so on.

Option 7 — Rural & Urban Roadways, Expressways, & Interstates

This is a 2-hour driving session aimed at making you safer on rural roads, expressways, and interstate highways. The first hour is dedicated to making you a safer driver on high speed rural highways and teaching you to Identify all the dangers associated with rural roads, like limited sight distances, restricted lines of sight, soft shoulders, blind driveways, passing, and being passed. Rural roads produce more traffic fatalities than any other stretch of highway in America. You will learn proven techniques of how to recover after edging off the roadway, how to avoid head on collisions, and other common collisions associated with rural roadways. We will address all the dangers associated with rural driving.

The second hour is dedicated to entering and exiting controlled access highways (interstates) and traveling using orderly visual search patterns, while maintaining safe space cushions and identifying hazards associated with the roadway’s features and conditions, traffic formations, other users, signs, signals, markings, and all other potential hazardous conditions. In addition, you will learn how to choose the proper lane and the correct lane positioning to travel in, as well as proper trip planning.

Because of the night time dangers, accident-related deaths are 3 times greater at night than during the day. The best way to stay safe at night is to understand the challenges of driving after dark. You will learn how to manage time and space with limited visibility, how to identify hazards with limited visibility, and how not to over drive your headlights. We will practice glare recovery and other sensory skills that must be developed to make you a safer driver at night.
