Every Georgian convicted of DUI (drug possession, underage possession of drugs, or underage possession of alcohol while driving a vehicle) is required to complete a Risk Reduction Program (RRP) approved by the Georgia Department of Human Resources, Division of Mental Health, Mental Retardation, and Substance Abuse to be eligible for possible reinstatement of his or her driver's license. If you are not a Georgia resident and wish to take our program, please contact the state where you received your conviction to determine if they will approve our program.
Barber's Driving School Risk Reduction Program (RRP) consists of two components:
Assessment Component: The assessment is a questionnaire consisting of 140 questions asking you personal information about your alcohol and drug use, lifestyle, and feelings toward certain situations. This assessment takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete and is administered in our office Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. and Saturdays from 9 A.M.-Noon. The assessment must be taken prior to the class dates. To take the assessment on the day of the course, you must call ahead for scheduling with our office staff. The cost of $75 must be paid prior to taking the assessment.
Educational Component (Classroom): This 20-hour Education course contains new information about alcohol and drugs and is presented in an enlightening way. The curriculum used is Prime For Life. Each student will receive a Prevention Research Institute (PRI) Study Guide that summarizes the material covered in class and contains our course activities. The cost of the classroom portion, including your workbook, is $205. Your fee must be paid on or before the first day of the class.
TOTAL COST FOR BOTH COMPONENTS: $280.00
This course can be beneficial to anyone concerned about the risk of alcohol or drugs. The PRI program has several goals which include the following:
- 1. To help everyone understand his or her own level of risk for alcohol and drug-related problems. We teach a specific Five Step Risk Reduction Process developed at the Prevention Research Institute to help individuals estimate their own levels of biological risks and to teach them specific research-based guidelines that, if followed, will make future problems with alcohol or drugs unlikely.
- 2. To help people complete a self-assessment analyzing their own drinking and drug choices. This will assist them in determining whether they have already developed alcoholism or drug addiction, or, if not, how close they may be to doing so. Resources that may be available to them are also provided. Both the information from the course and the results of the assessment questionnaire completed prior to class will help each person determine what they need to do to avoid future problems with alcohol or drugs.
- 3. To help each client through the correct process to having their driver's license reinstated. After the completion of the RRP (Risk Reduction Program), some clients can go right to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) to have their licenses reinstated. You will need to contact the Department of Driver Services for any specific questions regarding your reinstatement requirements. The number is 1(678)413-8400.
If you are a multiple offender or habitual violator, you may have more steps to go through before getting your license reinstated. You may have to wait a specific amount of time, seek a clinical evaluation, complete a treatment program, or have the Interlock device installed.
Barber's Driving School will help each of our clients get the services they need to reinstate their driver's licenses. When you come in, one of our staff will call the license bureau for you. This will help clear any confusion you may have and help determine which requirements are necessary to get your license reinstated.
Barber's Driving School has helped thousands of people with the requirements for the reinstatement of their licenses. Please allow our friendly courteous staff and instructors to help you.
